Odorgard®

Process Description

The Odorgard® process is marketed in Australia and New Zealand by Orica Watercare under licence from Synetix (formerly ICI Katalco). It offers catalytically enhanced hypochlorite scrubbing in a packed tower and presents a significant advance in the removal of odorous compounds and low level VOC's from effluent gas streams. The catalytic process incorporates a fixed bed transition metal catalyst to generate and hold radical oxygen, the active oxidative species at the catalyst surface. This is in contrast to standard chemical scrubbing techniques which rely on autogenous oxidation. This shift in chemical mechanism overcomes problems traditionally associated with conventional alkaline hypochlorite scrubbing, such as chlorination side reactions and chlorine gas emission, with the added advantage of requiring only a single counter flow tower, thus reducing space and capital requirements.

Applicable Industries Benefits of the Odorgard Process

Commercial Installations

The first Odorgard® unit to be installed in Australia was in Ipswich, Queensland in late 1997. Since the installation of the Odorgard unit, odour complaints have been eliminated. One other unit has been commissioned while two others are under construction in Australia. Click here to see our Odorgard Contractors - http://www.environmental.com.au

There are 40 Odorgard units installed across a dozen industries in the UK, Ireland and Wales. These industries include, paints and resins, sewage treatment, meat rendering, fire fighting foam, pharmaceutical's, animal feed, foundry and spice processing.
