Chloralkali Plant Reinvestment
In 1999 we announced the decision to build two new Chloralkali facilities to produce Caustic Soda, Chlorine and its derivatives with state of the art technology in Australia. This is a demonstration of our total commitment to the Chloralkali market, Australian industry and ultimately our customers.This reinvestment phase is an exciting time for Orica and builds on our historically strong market base and expertise. The investment of $150 million will result in the building of two new plants to be located at Laverton in Melbourne and Botany in Sydney. These new plants will use Bipolar Membrane technology, delivering improved efficiency and reliability as well as world class safety, inline with Orica's Safety Health and Environment standards.Work has commenced on both plants with Laverton scheduled to be operational by March 2001 and Botany by mid 2001.
